Women, Gender & Art in Asia, c. 1500-1900 brings women's engagements with art into a pan-Asian dialogue with essays that examine women as artists, commissioners, collectors, and subjects from India, Southeast Asia, Tibet, China, Korea, and Japan, from the sixteenth to the early twentieth century. The artistic media includes painting, sculpture, architecture, textiles, and photography. The book is broadly concerned with four salient questions: How unusual was it for women to engage directly with art? What factors precluded more women from doing so? In what ways did women's artwork or commissions differ from those of men? And, what were the range of meanings for woman as subject matter? The chapters deal with historic individuals about whom there is considerable biographical information. Beyond locating these uncommon women within their socio-cultural milieux, contributors consider the multiple strands that twined to comprise their complex identities, and how these impacted their works of art. In many cases, the woman's status-as wife, mother, widow, ruler, or concubine, (and multiple combinations thereof) as well as her religion and lineage-determined the media, style, and content of her art. Women, Gender & Art in Asia adds to our understanding of works of art, their meanings, and functions., Women, Gender and Art in Asia, c. 1500 1900 brings women's engagements with art into a pan-Asian dialogue with essays that examine women as artists, commissioners, collectors, and subjects from India, Southeast Asia, Tibet, China, Korea, and Japan, from the sixteenth to the early twentieth century. This is the story of their hardscrabble upbringing and how they fought their way to success. Two Small Footprints in Wet Sand relates the overwhelming tragedy experienced by a family as a result of a genetic disorder. How raising funds through Regulation A might now be a better and less costly choice for raising capital than current options (like loans or venture capital).Among all primates, baboons are the most widely used models for the genetics of susceptibility to complex diseases and they are the ?rst nonhuman primate for which a framework genetic linkage map was established. However, many entrepreneurs and economists believe that new changes to Regulation A will have a much greater impact on innovation and job creation. The contributors reveal the power relations of gender, class, race, and sexuality at the heart of the histories of imperialism, colonialism and nationalism that have shaped our modern world. In "The Good Girls Revolt," she evocatively tells the story of this dramatic turning point through the lives of several participants.Inspired by women s struggles for the protection of nature as a condition for human survival, she goes beyond a statement of women as special victims of the environmental crisis and shows how ecological destruction and the marginalization of women are not inevitable, economically or scientifically.Their powerful stories create a compelling portrait of the lives, struggles, and successes of this extraordinary nation and its extraordinarily resilient women.Back-to-the-land homesteader, gifted classical guitarist, Korean War vet, hermit, curmudgeon, George Carpenter has been absent for most of his daughter's life.
